``Wir sind Kunststoff``: Initiative campaigns for a climate-neutral future!
The “Wir sind Kunstoff” initiative is calling for the potential of CO2 reduction to be fully exploited through the unprejudiced cascading use of the material. This comes in the context of the publication of the draft EU Packaging Regulation, which sets targets and guard rails for circular economy, packaging reduction and a strengthened internal market.
As an association of plastics producers, machine manufacturers and plastics processors, the initiative “Wir sind Kunststoff” sees a need to catch up in the fundamental appreciation of the material. It emphasises that legal requirements should be justified on the merits and not ideologically. Plastics can play out their advantages both as disposable and reusable solutions.
In this context, the initiative advocates an energy-efficient cascade use of plastics and holistic material cycles. Significant CO2 savings can be achieved through the use of recycled materials. In addition, the initiative calls for the recognition and promotion of a broad technology portfolio in order to phase out petroleum and pave the way to a climate-neutral future.
